Control Will Be 15-20 Hours Long, Says Remedy

That's for critical path completion and "a few side missions".

Remedy Entertainment are trying new things with Control. While they’re still promising the sort of single player narrative-focused (and weird) experience that they’ve always been known for, this time, they’re also focusing a great deal more on the gameplay aspects as well, from its reactive gameplay, to its Metroidvania level design, to its side quests, and a lot more.

With there being a lot more “game” in this game, then, that should also mean that it’ll be a longer and meatier experience, with more hours of play time on offer- which definitely seems to be the case. We recently sat down for an interview with Mikael Kasurinen and Brooke Maggs, director and narrative designer on the game respectively.

When asked about how long an average playthrough of the game would be, they told us that though they don’t have exact numbers right now – owing to the fact it’s a “complicated, large game” and “can be played through in multiple ways”, it’s going to be roughly 15-20 hours long if you finish the campaign and do “a few side missions” along the way- which seems like a really good length for the game, especially since it promises to be pretty replayable with its much more systemic gameplay.

Control is due out on August 27 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC- we recently got a look at over 25 minutes of very impressive gameplay footage. Take a look through here. Our full interview with the devs will be going live soon, so stay tuned.
