When this rumor surfaced, Microsoft received a lot of negative traction and unwanted hate from fans and consumers alike. The rumour was basically a slap in the face to the consumer, the always online feature meant that the player was required to connect to the Internet at least once every 24 hours in order to synchronize the library and download updates; and failing to do so would prevent any games from being played until the console is connected to the internet again.
