Pearl Abyss has dropped an extensive new features showcase for Crimson Desert, its upcoming open-world action RPG, and there is a lot to dissect. However, perhaps the biggest reveal is that aside from Kliff, you’ll be able to control two other characters while exploring Pywel. So if you guessed that the two to either side of him in the above character banner would be playable, you’re indeed correct.

Unlocking them requires progressing enough through the story, but once done, you can freely control either character. Each has their own fighting styles, skills, and weapons. For instance, one uses a two-handed sword for powerful hits, but she can also pull out a flintlock pistol to quickly dispatch enemies up close.

The other possesses an axe, which can be used for devastating ground slams and spinning attacks. He also has a wrist-mounted crossbow for firing incendiary shots, allowing for some cool John Woo-style slow-mo aiming.

Coupled with Kliff’s own abilities and weapons, which are already fairly extensive, Crimson Desert packs in tons of gameplay variety. It’s out on March 19th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC after going gold earlier this month and given that this is only the first part of a series, there’s even more to be revealed in the coming weeks.
