The long-awaited DLC for Cuphead, The Delicious Last Course, has suffered another delay. Originally delayed to this year, developer Studio MDHR announced the DLC would now be releasing in 2021. It explained why on Twitter, stating that it wasn’t content with this final chapter being “anything less than our best work.”
“Throughout development, we’ve challenged ourselves to put everything we learned from making Cuphead into the quality of The Delicious Last Course’s animation, design, and music.” Given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic worldwide and developers on the project being affected, it’s been even more challenging than usual. “Rather than compromise on our vision in response to COVID, we’ve made the difficult decision to push back the release of The Delicious Last Course until we are confident it will delight the Cuphead community of the way we feel it should.”
Nevertheless, Studio MDHR is committed to making players’ return to the Cuphead-verse a “truly magical one” next year. Not many details about the DLC have been revealed aside from those gleaned from the last trailer, which features new playable character Ms. Chalice and an abominable snowman boss. Currently slated for Xbox One and Windows 10 PC, it will be interesting to see if other platforms are added, given Cuphead’s subsequent release on Nintendo Switch and PS4.
Stay tuned for more details until next year. In the meantime, check out our review for the base game here.
