While fast travel might seem out of place in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, where gameplay revolves almost entirely around overcoming perils while undertaking journeys to deliver cargo in pristine condition to its final destination, the feature is actually useful for quick jaunts between familiar locations. Unfortunately, none of the fast travel methods are available from the beginning of the game itself.
This guide for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is all about how to unlock all the fast travel systems and make use of them.
How To Unlock And Use The DHV Magellan
Simply progress the storyline through Main Order 012 where you ‘Investigate the Unusual Tar Currents near F1’ at West Fort Knot. Watch the cutscene, then eliminate the giant, tentacled boss, and complete your delivery. Sit through some more cutscenes after the DHV Magellan is activated.
When you wake up in your quarters, you should receive the notification that fast travel with the DHV Magellan via the tar currents is now unlocked.
You can initiate the DHV Magellan’s journey simply by accessing the map with the Ring Terminal and using the ‘Chart Course’ button near the top right to select a destination. However, be aware that you must be physically aboard the DHV Magellan when confirming the embarkation, as it can and will lift off without you.
All told, arriving at this point in the storyline may take between four to eight hours based on gameplay style.
DHV Magellan Fast Travel Limitations
You can only fast travel to discovered locations which are now part of the Chiral Network, somewhat limiting your pool of destinations.
Travelling with order-related cargo is possible, however you will not earn a high rating by exploiting this method, and you will be warned before embarkation.
There will be occasions when you are locked out of the tar current travel system of the DHV Magellan for storyline related reasons.
How To Unlock And Use Hot Spring Jumps
Progress the storyline through Main Order 026 where you ‘Recover Old BB Pod from the Armed Survivalists’ Base’ up until you arrive at The Motherhood. In the vicinity of this location is the Miracle Spring, which you can interact with to access its menu, and select ‘Hot Spring Jump’.
Aside from one other pre-built Hot Spring at Heartman’s Lab, the remaining seven will need to be constructed by you using a PCC and a Hot Spring Digger in an extended quest.
Miracle Hot Spring Jump Limitations
Jumps can only be made to any other Hot Spring, all of which are located in Australia.
Cargo and vehicles cannot travel via the Hot Spring. Any cargo you are carrying when making a Hot Spring jump will be left behind in a private locker at the same Hot Spring you jumped from.
Pouch and equipped items will be retained.
How To Unlock And Use Transponders For Beach Jumps
Transponders are structures that allow you to perform Beach jumps–a form of instantaneous travel via the Beach.
In order to construct a Transponder you simply need a PCC Level 2 and you are set.
Access the Transponder menu and select ‘Beach Jump’.
Transponder Beach Jump Limitations
Jumps can only be made to any map destination with a Transponder icon, including various facilities.
Cargo and vehicles cannot travel via the Beach. Any cargo you are carrying when making a Beach jump will be left behind in a private locker at the same Transponder you jumped from.
Pouch and equipped items will be retained.
Those are all the ways to fast travel as well as how to unlock and use them in Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.
