Destiny 2 players hungry for some information on Season of the Drifter, especially with the Season of the Forge coming to a close, will be getting plenty today. Community manager David “DeeJ” Dague confirmed in a recent tweet that a ViDoc will be released today at 9 AM PT. With eight minutes of developer commentary, Dague said, “We have grand plans for the next season that we’re excited to share with you.”
What about Joker’s Wild, the next so-called “premium content release” that Bungie was touting with its Annual Pass? It seems the name has been phased out, and the upcoming content is simply falling under “Season of the Drifter.” As Dague noted, “‘Joker’s Wild‘ was a concept that drove development. ‘Season of the Drifter’ is the experience that results from that effort. Code-names often shape our inspirations before our Narrative team can apply their brand of magic.” The real question is: What content can players look forward to (besides some new Gambit maps)?
As such, Bungie will be making changes to Gambit on March 5th, eliminating the third round of matches in favour of a “Primeval rush sudden death”. Spawn points for invaders are being increased and spawn logic is being overhauled in general, while Idle Protection will also be added. Basically, if you’re thinking of going AFK during a Gambit match, then you can forget about any rewards or Infamy points. Stay tuned for more information when the ViDoc goes live later today.
Just stood up in front of everyone at Bungie and previewed the Season of the Drifter ViDoc that we'll be unleashing tomorrow morning at 9AM Pacific. We have grand plans for the next season that we're excited to share with you. Eight minutes of developer commentary are inbound.

Thank you for this question. "Joker's Wild" was a concept that drove development. "Season of the Drifter" is the experience that results from that effort. Code-names often shape our inspirations before our Narrative team can apply their brand of magic.
