Though Bungie discussed Destiny 2: The Witch Queen and its many facets in last week’s ViDoc, it released a new Dev Insights trailer devoted to the Glaive. The weapon type will be debuting in the expansion and provides a ton of utility. However, introducing it into the current sandbox was a challenge.

A single developer was apparently working on it for almost a year, and when the Glaive was first tested, it was found to be too powerful. Slowly and slowly, the development team began tuning and refining it. As it stands, the current iteration is reportedly quite different from what was originally envisioned.

The Glaive can be used for a variety of things, whether it’s melee combat or firing at mid-range. It also generates a shield which makes it useful when reviving allies. In The Witch Queen campaign, it’s the first weapon that players will craft and there are three Exotic versions, one for each class, to discover as well.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen launches on February 22nd for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, PC and Google Stadia. Stay tuned for more details in the meantime.
