Crucible Lag
For the life of us, we still can’t understand Bungie’s connectivity issues with Destiny. Enter into any Crucible match and you’re liable to find at least one person with a red bar connection. Due to Destiny’s peer to peer connectivity instead of dedicated servers, you’re essentially reliant on the connection quality of those you’re matched with. It then comes down to Bungie to match you with players based on their connection quality, proximity to your location and so on. This is a problem in places like Australia which are known for their terrible ISPs.
The problem is only exasperated when Destiny deems it necessary to connect you with players from halfway around the world for the sake of matchmaking. Your opponents may not be killable due to the intense amounts of lag but hey, at least they’re at the same skill level as you (maybe)! Lag has been a constant nuisance in Destiny’s PvP and Bungie’s awful matchmaking which throws unbalanced teams together and inserts players into matches well underway (and most times on the losing team) aren’t much comfort. It seems like a stretch to think Destiny will receive dedicated servers down the line but at the very least its matchmaking and net code need significant improvements.
