Marking targets

Had he marked his targets, those guys could've never snuck up behind him

Marking systems are becoming an ever popular mechanic in the modern stealth game, and it is understandable why. No one likes rushing their stealth, but no one likes to wait around needlessly either. Being able to mark out your targets helps you come up with effective strategies on the fly, and it will be an invaluable and enjoyable boon to those wishing to take a stealthy approach in DE:HR.

Cover system

Nothing like a good cover system. With emphasis on the "good" part

Yet another mechanic planted in the Deus Ex world, straight off the back of every other third person shooter of the past decade. There is good reason for doing this though, as a good cover system can make for some awesome fire-fights and flanking strategies. If the gameplay trailers are anything to go by, Deus Ex: Human Revolution has such a cover system. No flashy gimmicks or tricks, just a quick and methodical way of avoiding enemy fire. After all, who wants to stay out in the open these days?

Meaningful upgrades

I don't know what that cool thing is on his left arm, but if it's an upgrade then count me in

Holographic sights my ass. Do you know what they should be called? Slightly different looking red dot sights. Too many gun upgrades these days just suck. Not in DE:HR though. You can find and purchase gun upgrades as you proceed through the game that, by the sound of things, will actually do something. Scopes that calculate how much to lead moving targets by in real time, upgrades that let you curve bullets mid-flight. This isn’t just practical stuff, it’s totally bad ass as well. So you can take your crappy laser sights and stick ’em where it hurts.
