Dev On PS4/Xbox One Resolution & FPS Debate: Games Should Run At ’60fps, No Matter What’

MixedBag's Mauro does believe it "depends a lot on the kind of game you're making" though.

PS4 Xbox one

It’s amazing how a standard that’s been so prevalent on the PC for so many years has become such a hot issue on the new generation of consoles. Then again, the Xbox One and PS4 were built with power in mind and to see them unable to deliver on 1080p/60 FPS – which has been marketed as a golden standard for video game visuals – is a bit disheartening.

That being said, some have attempted to rationalize the debate and say that it’s not all about frame rates or resolution. MixedBag’s Mauro, who worked on Futuridium EP Deluxe, was asked by Gaming Bolt about whether developers really care about this debate.

“Yes, all developers care. In an ideal world every game would run at 1080p/60fps on console, or higher, but a lot of times it’s simply not possible, and developers have to make a choice, and it’s always not an easy one. Also it depends a lot on the kind of game you’re making.”

His own personal opinion though? “60fps, no matter what.”
