Devil May Cry 5 Has No Plans Currently For Post-Launch Support

This is legitimately surprising, given Capcom usually has post launch-support for all its titles.

Devil May Cry 5 (6)

Capcom is one of the publishers that usually always tries to have some post-launch content or support for its major releases. Monster Hunter World, Resident Evil 7, Street Fighter V, all had major DLC and free updates come after launch. Even the 3DS Monster Hunter games would get free post-launch support.

However, for the upcoming Devil May Cry 5, nothing is planned other than the already announced free Bloody Palace update, producer Matt Walker confirmed on Twitter in response to a fan’s questions. This comes as a surprise given the context of the publisher, as noted, as well as the fact that Devil May Cry 5 is incorporating microtransactions, and so seems ripe for continuous post-launch support to generate revenue on an ongoing basis—especially since purchasable costumes and the like were added to previous HD Devil May Cry games as well.

But hey, on the other hand, it also suggests Capcom is confident in the ability of the product it is shipping to stand by itself. Which is good—let them go all out with it.

Devil May Cry 5 launches on March 8, 2019.
