Dontnod Entertainment may have started out as a small team making relatively niche games like Life is Strange, but the company has been expanding in significant ways of late. Just a couple of months ago, it was announced that indie studio PortaPlay’s narrative lite-RPG Gerda: A Flame in Winter would mark the studio’s publishing debut, and now, we know what the next step in that journey is going to be as well.
Dontnod Entertainment has announced that it will also be publishing the next game by Belgium-based team Studio Tolima. The deal will also see the company co-producing the title with the developer, with Dontnod providing “its knowledge and experience acquired with its previous titles” to Studio Tolima “in order to support this future creation in its development and marketing.”
While the full extent of this co-production deal and what it will entail behind-the-scenes hasn’t been detailed, Dontnod says in its announcement, “This controlled co-production, developed by a handful of talents and based on a minimalist universe, offers significant adaptation potential both in terms of media (PC, mobile, tablet) and language versions to address the most dynamic markets.”
Dontnod Entertainment will hold the majority rights of the IP, whatever it turns out to be- details on what sort of a game is in the works or what genre it will fall in are scant for now. That said, the company says its publishing and marketing departments “have been strengthened and are now made of more than 20 talents” and will allow it to “support future game releases, whether self-published or developed by external studios.”
In addition to publishing titles developed by external partners, Dontnod Entertainment also currently plans on releasing five self-published internally developed titles by 2025. Read more on that through here.
