DOOM

id Software has extended the open beta for DOOM and revealed a special treat for PC players. Originally scheduled to end on April 17th, the open beta will now end on April 18th, 11:59 PM EST. For some regions, that means sometime in the morning on April 19th so play now while it lasts.

Lead rendering engineer Tiago Sousa also confirmed on Twitter that the PC version’s frame rate would be unlocked and not have a frame cap. “Happy that we announced FPS unlock officially – code team been working hard on eradicating that for #PCMASTERRACE,” he stated.

As for why this was relegated to being a “new” feature rather than the standard, Sousa told one Twitter user that it was “not relegated – technical debt on this from prev engine was fairly encrusted + engineering takes time, this is not macdonalds”.

DOOM will be out on May 13th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Thoughts on the open beta? Let us know in the comments.
