UPDATE: An elaborate fake.

UPDATE: It seems as if Naughty Dog reached out to Seasoned Gaming to say that a Edgar Newman never worked at the company. Upon further research, Mr. Newman does not seem to appear at all in credits for The Division 2, the other major title he was credited for. It seems that not only is the LinkedIn fake, but also Newman himself is. That also means, unfortunately, this unannounced AAA project from Double Fine is also most likely a fake, though the company is assuredly working on something.

Original story follows:

Double Fine Productions was one of the many studios that was snatched up last year in Microsoft’s buying spree to bolster their Xbox Game Studios offerings. The company has a strong following due to their quirky releases and distinct sense of humor. It also seems something big could be bubbling as a new LinkedIn points to a big project in the pipes.

People noticed that the LinkedIn page for Edgar Newman had him as a new hire for the studio. If you’re unfamiliar with Newman, he was an ex-senior game designer at Naughty Dog as well as part of Massive Entertainment. More interesting is that his profile says that he’s working on an “AAA Unannounced Project” for Double Fine Production as the Lead Game Designer.

While Double Fine has designed some solid looking titles in the past, they probably aren’t what most people think of as “AAA,” but what that term means can be stretched to mean whatever I imagine. No word on platforms, time frames or anything like that. There is an event about Xbox Series X titles next week, but it will only focus on third party titles. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
