Dragon’s Dogma 2 is Discontinuing the Deluxe Edition and Various Microtransactions on June 25th

The base game is also getting a permanent discount, no doubt to attract new players ahead of the launch of Dark Arisen in October.

Two years after its release, Dragon’s Dogma 2 fans were finally vindicated when Capcom announced its own version of Dark Arisen. While a new patch has introduced multiple quality-of-life improvements, including freer Portcrystal usage, it’s going even further by removing several microtransactions.

From June 25th, midnight UTC, you can no longer purchase Rift Crystals, Wakestones, Portcrystals, Makeshift Gaol Keys, Ambivalent Rift Incenses, Heartfelt Pendants, Harpysnare Smoke Beacons, and the “A Boon for Adventurers” pack. The Deluxe Edition, which includes many of the same benefits, is also being discontinued on all current platforms.

If that wasn’t enough, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is receiving a permanent discount (check out our review, though it’s received numerous changes since). Which isn’t too surprising, considering Capcom has done the same for titles like Street Fighter 6. After all, its real purpose is to encourage players to pick up the expansion, potentially in a new bundle that could go live on the same day.

We’ll have to wait and see, but good on Capcom for removing many of the controversial microtransactions, even if it is years later. As for Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, it’s out on October 9th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. It also marks the game’s debut on Nintendo Switch 2.
