Thanks to regulation changes for the 2022 Formula One World Championship, Codemasters’ F1 22 will see several changes to its physics and handling. In a new developer deep dive, senior game designer David Greco talks about these and how the team approached the real-world changes.

This year’s iteration offers an improved suspension model and collisions. The suspension position needs to be read perfectly to allow cars to ride as low to the ground as possible (which allows for improved bump stops. Aerodynamics also had to be re-examined and will be completely different from previous years’ games. Downforce comes from ground effects under the car, which also needs to be faithful to real life.

With cars being lower to the ground, bump stops will be reached a lot earlier. This will make curb ridings stiffer and more difficult, thus providing a massive departure from previous years. Check out the full video below to learn more about other changes that can be expected.

F1 22 is out on July 1st for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, and PC. Champions Edition owners receive early access on June 28th.
