Out of nowhere, Bethesda has dropped an open letter about its plans for the future, and it admits outright that Fallout 5 is the “long-range destination.” Todd Howard said the game would have its time, and while that may be a ways off, this is confirmation that it’s indeed coming (and currently in pre-production on Creation Engine 3).
In the meantime, the studio has multiple Fallout projects in “active development,” and confirms, for the first time, that remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development. No release dates to be had, unfortunately, but once again, they’re in the works as per fans’ wishes, though whether another studio is working on it similar to The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered is unknown.
If that wasn’t enough, Fallout Day won’t have a “traditional” broadcast later this year, but Bethesda is planning “something special” for the series’ 30th anniversary in Washington, D.C next year. The setting is paramount for Fallout 3, so it could be anything related to the remaster, from the first gameplay footage to a release date announcement.
In the meantime, the studio will keep on keeping on with Fallout 76 with its next major expansion, Raven Rock, launching next year and serving as a Fallout 3 prequel. Even more indication perhaps that the remaster will launch next year. As for Fallout 4, it’s sold over 35 million copies to date and is still going strong. Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.
