Final Fantasy 15 Sales Decline Continues As Nintendo 3DS Hardware And Software Rules The Roost In Japan

Meanwhile, PS4 Pro sales see a very slight bump.

It looks like Nintendo 3DS has the sales charts in Japan completely on lockdown, on the hardware and the software front- the highest selling system in Japan this week was the 3DS, which actually managed to sell more than all other systems put together, and the top three highest selling games of the week were all 3DS games, with 12 out of 20 games in the Top 20 all being 3DS titles.

The highest selling game was Yokai Watch 3: Sukiyaki, which was followed by Pokemon Sun/Moon and Super Mario Maker, both of which, incredibly, saw week on week increases in terms of sales. The PS Vita exclusive new SaGa game came in fourth, while Yakuza 6 and Final Fantasy 15 both continued to see heavy declines this week.

For Sony, it was actually some good news on the hardware front, too- the PS4 may have been outsold by the 3DS, but it still managed to pull in 79,348 units sold, including a small bump for total PS4 Pro systems sold in the country too. Meanwhile, the launch of SaGa seems to have buoyed PS Vita sales as well, with the handheld having come in at 36,214 units sold last week.

It was one of the rare few weeks last week when things generally performed pretty well overall in Japan- even Final Fantasy 15 sales, while declining, held incredibly well, and give some hope that the game may manage to have a long tail, compensating for its weaker start in Japan after all. Here’s hoping.
