NOTE: There are spoilers ahead for Final Fantasy 7 Remake.
Final Fantasy 7 fans have a special place in their hearts for Zack Fair, a crucial character in the universe’s story and the protagonist of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7. He is, of course, back in the limelight once again thanks to the latter’s remaster, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion, but as those who’ve played Final Fantasy 7 Remake will likely have predicted, we’re probably going to be seeing a lot more of him in the not too distant future.
FF7 Remake ended with a surprising scene that seemed to indicate that Zack’s fate in this version of the story may be very different from the original, and that he may have ended up surviving. His Japanese voice actor, Kenichi Suzumura, has also now said that the character will play “an active role” in its upcoming sequel, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Speaking in an interview with Famitsu (via @aitaikimochi on Twitter), Suzumura said, “There’s not much I can say [about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth], but Zack seems to play an active role as well.”
We did, of course, briefly see Zack in FF7 Rebirth’s reveal trailer earlier this year, and with that in mind, as well as the character’s appearances in its predecessor and at the end of Episode INTERmission, it doesn’t come as too much of a shock that he’ll continue to have an important role to play in the sequel. What role that will be obviously remains to be seen, but fans of the series will no doubt be hypothesizing about it wildly.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is set to launch in Winter 2023 for PS5. Meanwhile, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7 Reunion is out for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC- you can read our review of the game through here.
