As a remake of one of the most beloved and highly regarded video games ever made, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a game that millions are looking forward to with giddy anticipation- but it’s only going to tell a fraction of the original game’s story, with Square Enix planning several episodic instalments to retell the whole story. The upcoming release is just the first of many- but how long after its launch is the second instalment going to come out?

While we don’t have an answer for that yet, we do know that development is going to begin very soon. Pre-production and early development on the game has actually been going on for some time now, but speaking to GameSpotFinal Fantasy 7 Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase – who was the director and writer of the original FF7 – said that Square Enix will begin proper development of part 2 as soon as the first part has launched, with no breaks in between.

“I think we’ll probably get straight into it,” he said.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake is out for the PS4 on April 10, and will be exclusive to the console until April 2021. Reportedly, it will weigh over 100 GB. A demo of the game is out now.
