Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Director Won’t Confirm Whether the DLC Takes Place in the Past or Present

However, Square Enix's Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed they would dig "deeper" into their characters, similar to INTERmission.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation

If you haven’t heard by now, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is a massive game. Even if Square Enix hasn’t revealed how long the story is or how much time you’ll need to complete everything, it could have more content than Rebirth. That alone guarantees at least 100 hours of gameplay, and that’s not even considering the upcoming DLC.

Yes, the DLC. Launching between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028, the two will focus on Sephiroth and Vincent Valentine (with the Turks factoring in somewhere). With director Naoki Hamaguchi previously confirming that the Remake trilogy would conclude in Revelation, you would think that these are prequels.

Speaking to VGC in a recent interview, he said, “It’s best to imagine the DLC like what we did with INTERmission: digging deeper into the characters of Vincent and Sephiroth. In regard to whether those stories take place in the past or the present, I’m not going to tell you that now, but we’re excited to reveal that.”

Considering how the original plays out, it makes sense for this to be a prequel, at least for Sephiroth. But with how the remakes have changed the narrative, there’s no telling how he’ll emerge from Revelation’s events (and in what form). As for Vincent and the Turks, it’s not too far-fetched to assume this story could run parallel to the game’s events (or even Rebirth’s).

As always, time will tell, and we first need to get through the massive journey that is Final Fantasy 7 Revelation when it launches on April 8th, 2027. It will be available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
