Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is getting a physical edition, with Xbox Series X/S and PS5 getting a single disc while Nintendo Switch 2 owners receive a Game Key Card. However, the former comes with an unfortunate catch that’s become all too common.

It’s still going to need your consoles to be hooked up to the internet for a mandatory download before you can actually play the game, which is a departure from the two-disc editions of the previous two installments that were fully playable out of the box.

Of course, that might not be too big a deal to all, but the most fervent collectors of physical copies of games. However, the news comes against the backdrop of an increasing decline in interest among manufacturers in physical copies of games, and a slew of concerns that have since arisen in the aftermath.

There are still a lot of reasons to dive into Revelation even if you’re not too pleased with this new development, including but not limited to a choice-driven approach, a revamped approach to minigames, the new FITS, mounted combat, and so much more. Sephiroth and Vincent and the Turks are also getting story courtesy of the Story Expansion Pass.
