Foamstars Has Single-Player and Co-op PvE Modes

There's also the possibility of more single-player content post-launch if it would "benefit the game", per producer Kosuke Okatani.

Several new details about Square Enix’s Foamstars are available following the announcement of its release date. Along with launching for PS4 and PS5, it’s coming to PlayStation Plus as part of its Monthly Games in February. A year or so of post-launch content is planned, with a Season Pass structure and free maps, modes and characters on top of a Premium Pass with cosmetics.

Of course, for those who don’t want to play competitive multiplayer, the development team confirmed to VGC that there are single-player and co-op modes. You have to defend Bath Vegas from waves of Bubble Beasties, solo or with other players. Even if producer Kosuke Okatani is tired of the Splatoon comparisons online, this does sound similar to Salmon Run.

Interestingly, there is a possibility of additional solo and co-op content post-launch, per Okatani. “First we wanted to establish this game as a new IP and focus on the PvP element. On the other hand, we do expect fans of Square Enix RPGs to look at this game and want to try it out and maybe find it’s too hard for them.

“For players like that, so they can get used to the game and the PvP side of the game, we introduced Mission Mode, where they can play by themselves and see conversations between the characters. Since this is a game we will continuously work on, if we see that introducing more single-player-focused elements would benefit the game, then we would definitely consider it.”

Foamstars launches on February 6th and will offer three multiplayer modes at launch. Stay tuned for more details and updates in the meantime.
