Gears 5’s Newest Escape Trailer Details Abilities, Scavenging, Rewards, and More

Gears 5's newest multiplayer mode is looking like a very interesting experience.

The Coalition obviously want Gears 5 to be the next big step forward for the franchise, and though we’re yet to see what that will mean in terms of the campaign, at least as far as the multiplayer component is concerned, we’ve already seen quite a lot of new stuff from them. The headlining new addition is probably Escape, the three player co-op mode that sees players planting a gas bomb in a hive and then escaping it before the bomb kills them too.

In a new trailer published by the game’s official Twitter, we get a quick primer on what we can expect to see from Escape. The three player squad starts out with just a pistol and a few bullets, and must fight its way out, initially having to rely on stealth and then getting more weapons and resources by killing enemies and even exploring the hive.

There’s three characters that you can play as- the Support class Keegan (whose ultimate ability is Resupply), the Scout class Lahni (whose ultimate is Electroblade), and the Tank class Mac (who can throw up a barrier as his ult). Successfully making it out of the hive nets you with rewards such as customizations, skill cards, and XP. The difficulty of the hive dictates what awards you receive. There’s a lot more to dive into, so take a look below.

Gears 5 recently wrapped up development, and will be coming out for the Xbox One and PC on September 10th. On August 19th, we’ll be receiving more details from its “all-new” Horde mode, as well as footage from its campaign.
