New enemies

As if we didn't have enough trouble already

Nothing quite gets your blood bumping like an encounter with some of the awesome boss monsters in Gears of War. Whether it’s a berserker charge, a corpser attack or a boomer ambush, the great enemy designs always keep you on your toes. It is thus with a mixture of anticipation and terror that we see some new enemy types set for Gears of War 3. The Savage Grenadier, the Digger Boomer, the Locust Siege Beast, the Kantus Knight will all have us running for our lives in Gears 3, along with lambent variants of the classics.

Horde mode 2.0

Horde mode was a great addition to Gears 2, and it has since permeated just about every other shooter franchise out there. It could sometimes get a little repetitive though. Epic seek to remedy this by including more strategic elements in the horde mode for Gears of War 3. You can now earn points that will let you erect defences around a base of your choice. Walls, traps, decoys etc. it all looks set to bring new elements to the standard wave survival mode.

Beast mode

Horde mode was fun and all, but sometimes it feels good to be bad. We all love the cog army, but haven’t you ever wondered what it would be like to be the locust hordes hunting them down? Now you can find out how that feels, with Gears 3’s beast mode. Beast mode plays out like horde mode, but with players controlling locust who must eliminate cog soldiers. As you land successive kills you can upgrade what locust type you spawn as. You may start as a wretch, only to work your way up to a boomer. Who says that crime doesn’t pay?
