Gears of War 4: 10 Things We Want To See

Balanced multiplayer

The multiplayer component of Gears of War 2 was notorious for being highly unbalanced. It was a huge dampener to the overall experience for a lot of people, despite being very enjoyable. And while Gears of War 3’s multiplayer improves upon Gears 2’s component in almost every aspect, weapons like the sawed off shotgun and the overpowered lancer make it a still unbalanced mode, though not as much as its predecessor. Still, we want Gears 4’s multiplayer to be not just enjoyable, but very balanced as well, with well thought out weapon loadouts that give no one any clear advantage over the others.

Another thrilling campaign

Gears of War has always been about the campaign for me, and with each game, the campaigns have gotten progressively better and more thrilling. Gears 1 was, well, the game that started it all. Gears 2 had some brilliant set piece moments, some great survival horror elements, some very well directed cutscenes, and even though it had its lows, it was a very enjoyable ride. And what can be said about Gears 3’s campaign that has not already been said? It was a hell lot of fun, with epic set piece moments, great bosses, an engaging story and great character development. I want Gears of War 4 to have another campaign that, if not better than its predecessors, is at least as good. It’s not much to ask for, since Epic is a very talented developer, and developing a great campaign does not seem to be much of a task for them.

Detailed past of Sera

Sera has been developed wonderfully in the Gears trilogy. Right from the wonderful Greek/Roman architecture to the backstories of Pendulum Wars and whatnot, Gears of War’s world, Sera, is a rich, believable world that everyone can fall in love with very easily. I’d like Gears of War 4 to delve deeper into Sera’s past, giving us more stories about civil strifes, wars, origin stories and more. It’d make the world much more believable, more rich, and as a result, it’d make the game much more engaging.

Destructible environments

Destructible environments FTW

We’ve seen glimmers of this in the franchise till now. Chips of stone fall off as we shoot cover, bullet holes appear and remain in logs of wood, the floor and walls take proper damage, barrels explode… it’s all very basic. What I want to see is destructible environment comparable to the ones in Battlefield, or at least Killzone. It’d add a whole new element of strategy to the cover based gameplay. You take cover, but your enemies blow it away with a portable turret. What do you do then? Look for another wall or slab of stone. It’d add a lot more strategy and fun, and it’d make the gameplay that much more frantic and full of tension.
