Gears of War 4’s Marcus Fenix Isn’t Playable

Benefits to having him in the campaign though.

Gears of War 4

Given how much focus Marcus Fenix, the protagonist of the previous Gears of War titles, is getting for Gears of War 4 there seemed to be some thought in The Coalition allowing players to control him one more time. And hey, for nostalgia purposes, it’s not exactly the most unreasonable thing in the world.

However, creative director Chuck Osieja confirmed to IGN that Marcus will in fact not be playable. “He’s not. He’s one of the AI characters.”

There are some perks to keeping Marcus as the proverbial wallflower in the campaign. “What’s nice about having Marcus not be a playable character is that because, he’s not playable, he reacts to things in the world alot differently. [In Gears 4,] we kind of get a different perspective from him than we ever did before.”

Get comfortable with JD Fenix, Marcus’s son and new protagonist, in the meantime. Gears of War 4 is out on October 11th for Xbox One and Windows 10.
