As much as Gears of War is about the story, the universe and the campaign, it’s also a highly social experience. That means co-op and with the introduction of two new characters – Mags Carter and Lucas Reyes – alongside Marcus and Dom, we have the new Bravo Squad in E-Day.
You can expect four-player online co-op in the campaign, but don’t worry – split-screen co-op is still a thing, albeit only for two players. As for multiplayer, four new modes are being added alongside new maps that promise the classic Gears symmetrical design. If you thought cover shuffling into shotgun blasts was annoying, we can only imagine how sliding will add to this.
Regardless, the real appeal is Horde, and it’s bigger than ever. Up to 12 players divided into three squads can team together, fighting off the Locust across various city-based maps in Horde Siege. Further details will be revealed later, but The Coalition also promised post-launch support, including a seasonal roadmap and the ability to earn everything on offer by completing challenges.
While Gears of War: E-Day will be available on October 6th for Xbox Series X/S and PC for $69.99, there will be open beta weekends for trying out the multiplayer this Summer. Furthermore, those who want to get into the game early can pick up the Premium Edition, which includes five days of advanced access.
