miHoYo’s free-to-play action RPG Genshin Impact has been an absolute revelation since it launched last year, garnering critical acclaim, which has also been reflected in a steadily growing playerbase. Recently, the developer revealed how much it cost to make the game, and how much it will cost to keep it running – the numbers aren’t anything to scoff at by any means – but it seems they seem be to turning a pretty healthy profit on it nonetheless.

As per a recent report published by Sensor Tower, the iOS and Android version of Genshin Impact has generated roughly $874 million in revenue since its launch in September 2020, averaging roughly $175 million per month in player spending. During that five month period, that total number is the third highest for any mobile game, with only Honor of Kings (at $1.2 billion) and PUBG Mobile (at $1.1 billion) raking in more cash.

Given the fact that the game is also available on PC and PS4, the total revenue its bringing in for miHoYo is likely significantly higher, which makes its commercial success that much more impressive.

A Nintendo Switch version of the game is also confirmed, but that doesn’t yet have a release date.
