Sony recently announced the PlayStation Showcase, a 40 minute-long digital show that will focus on upcoming PS5 games from both big and small publishers, and if reports are to be believed, it might turn out to be a packed events with plenty of major updates and announcements.
Over on Twitter, Xbox Era co-founder Nick Baker – who’s accurately leaked his fair share of PlayStation-related information in the past, and also recently indicated that an event was coming in September – suggested that God of War: Ragnarok (or whatever the game ends up being called) will be shown off at the showcase, and shared a screenshot of a conversation with his anonymous source. Meanwhile, VGC’s Andy Robinson also says that based on what he’s been told, there will be some “super announcements” at the show.
Along with God of War, the PS5 also has Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 coming in 2022, and it’s likely that those games will show up. As far what else Sony might show, that’s anyone’s best guess. The company supposedly has over 25 first party games in development at internal and external studios, over half of which are new IPs, and two of which are allegedly a Twisted Metal revival and a new FromSoftware property. Naughty Dog is also working on a standalone multiplayer The Last of Us project, while a remake of the first game is also allegedly in development.
