Gran Turismo 7 Lowers Credit Payouts, Refueling Microtransaction-Related Criticisms

Gran Turismo 7 has been criticized upon launch for its in-game monetization, and its latest changes certainly aren't going to help matters.

Gran Turismo 7

Gran Turismo 7’s been enjoying widespread acclaim it’s seen since its launch, and while everything from its excellent driving mechanics to the sheer breadth of content on offer in the game deserves the plaudits, it’s not a game without issues. Shortly after launch, for instance, Gran Turismo 7’s in-game store went online, and it was quickly reported that vehicles had seen significant increases in pricing as compared to Gran Turismo Sport.

Having already been receiving some criticism for its monetization practices, Gran Turismo 7 has, unfortunately, made another questionable decision. As part of the recently released update 1.07, the credits the game rewards you with for completing racing events have been lowered for various races. Credits are, of course, used to purchase vehicles and components from the in-game shop, but players have the option to purchase them in larger quantities using real-money as well.

A lot of the events that have seen decreases in their currency payouts were ones that had been used by many players to farm larger sums of credits, so you wouldn’t be blamed for looking at this change and arguing that it’s been made to push players into spending more money on a game that already costs $70 on the PS5.

The following events have seen changes in the credits they reward (new payouts mentioned in bold, compiled by VGC):

  • World Touring Car 800: 24 heures du Mans Racing Circuit: 5,000 Cr – 70,000 Cr
  • World Touring Car 800: Monza Circuit: 5,000 Cr – 70,000 Cr
