Sony has recently announced that pre-loading for Grand Theft Auto 5 on the European PlayStation Network Store will be delayed till September 16th. Which is especially annoying some consumers since it was supposed to begin, oh, today.

There is legitimate concern however, since this will be one day before the game’s release. Given the 17 GB download size, would Sony’s servers be able to handle the load? There is concern that not spacing the downloads out over a few days could lead to the servers going down, which would then prevent any one from getting a copy at launch.

One also has to take into account that there are those who cancelled their reservation of the game to take advantage of pre-loading, only available on PSN in Europe. And it’s far too late to get a refund and purchase a copy at retail now.

Grand Theft Auto 5 will be releasing on September 17th worldwide for PS3 and Xbox 360.
