Grand Theft Auto 6 Won’t Launch Before April 2025, Take-Two’s Revised Fiscal Outlook Suggests

Take-Two Interactive's revised earnings guidance for fiscal year 2024/25 could indicate that GTA 6 won't launch until the following fiscal year, which begins on April 1, 2025.

Upon its long-awaited announcement in December, Grand Theft Auto 6 was handed a 2025 launch window, and in its recent quarterly fiscal report, Rockstar Games’ parent company Take-Two Interactive reiterated that window, but when exactly in 2025 will the game be releasing? Judging by Take-Two’s revised bookings forecast for fiscal year 2024/25, the game might not release until at least April 2025.

Per its updated forecast, Take-Two has revised its projects for the period down to $7 billion in net bookings, down from the $8 billion that it was previously projecting, which, according to industry analysts Nick McKay and Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities, is indication that GTA 6 won’t launch until the following fiscal year begins (i.e. April 1, 2025).

“We can only surmise that GTA 6 has slipped out of FY:25, in-line with our earlier expectation,” the analysts said in a research note (via VGC). “Management had said that next year’s bookings number will be just over $7 billion, a far cry from its initial comments of $8 billion in May, and its first revision of just under $8 billion in November.

“The drop makes us almost certain that GTA 6 will not be releasing next FY. With that said, we have no reason to believe the game has slipped out of calendar 2025, but it is reasonable to assume that it will launch later in the year.”

When asked about Grand Theft Auto 6’s release plans, Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said in a recent Q&A with investors that developer Rockstar Games was “seeking perfection”, and that the game would only release once the developer was sure that it was “optimized creatively”.

Whenever it launches, Grand Theft Auto 6 will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

It was recently announced that Grand Theft Auto 5 has sold 195 million units worldwide as of December 31.
