Grand Theft Auto 6’s Jason isn’t Being Played by Troy Baker, the Actor Confirms

The actor has confirmed that he isn't playing the upcoming crime epic's male protagonist, contrary to some speculation.

Prior to its announcement, reports revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 would feature two protagonists in the form of Lucia and Jason, inspired by real-life robber couple Bonnie and Clyde, and though the game’s official announcement trailer was focused primarily on Lucia, we did also get some glimpses of her partner-in-crime.

As far as dialogue is concerned, however, Jason only says one word throughout the entire trailer (“trust”, right at the very end)- though there are many who have speculated based on that one word’s delivery that the character sounds a lot like Troy Baker, the prolific actor known for his roles in The Last of Us (Joel), Uncharted (Sam Drake), Far Cry (Pagan Min), Death Stranding (Higgs), and much more.

But is Baker playing the role of Jason as speculation has suggested? The actor himself has confirmed that that’s not the case. Caught by Insider Gaming, in a recent interview with YouTube channel The Movie Dweeb, Baker put those rumours to bed when the question was directly posed to him.

“He says one word!” Baker said. “He says ‘trust’. That right there is a lesson in perception- people think and they just automatically assume. I want that guy, whoever it is, to get credit for his work, because I’m sure it’s going to be great.”

Up to this point, Rockstar Games itself has not provided any official casting details for Grand Theft Auto 6. In fact, Jason’s name hasn’t even been officially confirmed yet- which means it might be a while before we get the full answers to our questions.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to release in 2025 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. It was suggested that the game was in danger of getting delayed into 2026, but more recent reports have claimed those concerns are “overblown”.
