Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition was easily one of 2021’s most controversial releases. The lackluster remasters were criticized heavily by fans and critics alike upon launch for a number of reasons, a bevy of technical issues chief among them, which led to the trilogy being temporarily pulled from sale on PC, and Rockstar having to come out and apologize for the state it had launched in.
Some patches have been pushed out since the game was launched, fixing a number of issues, but in recent comments, Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive, seemed to downplay the game’s technical issues. Speaking in an interview with CNBC, Zelnick said that GTA: The Trilogy has “done just great for the company”, and that though it “had a glitch” at release, it has since “been resolved.”
“With regards to the GTA trilogy, that was actually not a new title,” he said. “That was a remaster of preexisting titles. We did have a glitch in the beginning, that glitch was resolved. And the title of has done just great for the company.”
The trilogy did, of course, fix a number of glitches, but it goes without saying that it had more than just “a glitch”- and still has a few that haven’t been resolved. Either way, it would be interesting to see how many copies it has sold and continues to sell.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is currently available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
