Halo 5: Guardians is nearly upon us and 343 Industries’ ranking system in multiplayer has been compared to that of Blizzard’s Hearthstone. With so many similarities between them, it shouldn’t be surprising to hear that Halo 5’s ranking system was created by ladder and matchmaking designer Josh Menke who had worked on Hearthstone.

Speaking on Twitter, 343 Industries studio head Josh Holmes said that, “Halo 5’s [competitive skill ranking] system was designed by Josh Menke. [He] also worked on Hearthstone.”

Menke followed by saying that, “Closer to Starcraft 2 than Hearthstone. I left before H5 beta, but I like the improvements 343 has made since.”

He currently works at Activision as a matchmaking designer and along with Hearthstone and Starcraft 2, Menke has worked on Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and World of Warcraft.

Halo 5: Guardians is out on October 27th for Xbox One. What are your thoughts on its ranking system? Let us know in the comments.
