Love it or hate it, Microsoft’s flagship franchise Halo has been a major success for the company, spawning a number of games, merchandise and media including an animated movie and a show (with another animated series on the way with Fall of Reach). In a recent Xbox Wire post detailing the events at San Diego Comic Con, Microsoft revealed that the series had sold more than 65 million units thus far.
Interestingly enough, the series hit 60 million units sold in October 2014 – roughly a month before Halo: The Master Chief Collection released. For all the criticism the collection has endured (a lot of it rightly), it still contributed to the overall series total in a strong way.
343 Industries will be continuing the series with the hotly anticipated Halo 5: Guardians when it releases in October. Along with featuring two different perspectives in its campaign with Master Chief and Agent Locke, it will also debut new multiplayer modes like Warzone.
