Hayter: No New Metal Gear Solid In Works, But Hopes There Will Be Things To Announce

The voices of Solid Snake and Kaz Miller say there's nothing in the works right now.

Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain

There’s been a lot of speculation over the past few days that something related to Metal Gear Solid might be getting announced imminently, primarily due to a round of tweets by Robin Atkin Downes (the voice of Kazuhira Miller) and David Hayter (the voice of Solid Snake and Naked Snake). As it turns out, though, it doesn’t look like there’s anything in the pipeline.

Yesterday, the pair got together for a livestream, during which they promised to answer questions from fans, and as you can probably imagine, a lot of the questions had to do with Metal Gear Solid and its future. In response to one question, Hayter and Downes talked about their experience on previous games in the series, before going on to say that though they hope something gets announced eventually, for now, there’s nothing in the works.

“Do we miss working on the series? I do,” Hayter said. “Doing Snake was one of the best jobs I ever had, and I had a very good run of games. It is always an adventure to step into a new Metal Gear game, and getting to work with those amazing actors, and with our English voice director Kris Zimmerman. So yeah, I miss it quite a bit.”

“Yeah, I would love to work on something, anything with you again,” Downes added. “You know, you never know, down the line… Unfortunately, we wanna make it clear, there is nothing right now in the works. We just want to make that clear. But to me, it says- all of the people that have been tweeting, it’s exciting to me that people are truly interested in something else, and obviously, I’d be down for it.”

“Hopefully, there will be things to announce,” Hayter chimed in. “I don’t know how much experience Robin has tweeting to the Metal Gear community, but I have quite a bit. And when he sent me that first message, I was like, ‘oh no. They’re gonna explode.’ So I do apologize about any misconceptions about new games and whatnot. I would love to do it. We’ll see if Konami is able to make that happen, because they own the property.”

Well, there you go. No Metal Gear Solid– well, for now, anyway. Someday, maybe, hopefully. Never be game over.
