The Game Awards had a ton of interesting announcements but all of them paled in comparison to the reveal of the Xbox Series X and Hellblade 2: Senua’s Saga. The latter looked especially incredible with the series’ grim take on Norse mythology and Celtic culture remaining intact. It’s also interesting because till now, we assumed that Ninja Theory was only working on multiplayer title Bleeding Edge.
Speaking to GameSpot, Xbox boss Phil Spencer and Xbox program management partner director Jason Ronald said that Hellblade 2 was actually on Ninja Theory’s roadmap by the time it was approached for acquisition. It doesn’t provide the best context into far along development is but it’s good to know that the studio is still focused on story-driven games. Spencer and Ronald also confirmed that the recent trailer was in-engine and running in real time.
The real question now is: How far is it from release? Xbox Series X releases in Holiday 2020 and will have 343 Industries’ Halo Infinite available at launch. Could Hellblade 2 be further off? Time will tell so stay tuned for more details and in the meantime, find out how the Xbox Series X GPU is twice as powerful as that of the Xbox One X.
