Helldivers 2 - Omens of Tyranny

While Arrowhead Game Studios has slowed down its release cadence of large updates for co-op shooter Helldivers 2, the studio has now revealed on social media platform X that more content is coming to the game through a new Warbond. On X, the studio mentioned the lack of a major update and Warbond since March’s Borderline Justice Warbond as well as announcing that the next Warbond will be unveiled on May 8.

“We know it’s been a while since our last update, fear not—we are cooking,” posted the studio on X. “You may have noticed that the gap between our major updates and Warbond releases is a little longer this time. But we’re happy to say we’ll be announcing our next Warbond on May 8, and there will be more exciting news to come not long after.”

The studio’s post continues, stating that more details about the Warbond will be revealed soon. “We won’t stand on ceremony too much in revealing what that Warbond might be, but you’ll hear more from us soon,” it wrote. “Until then: stand up straight, polish those boots and keep that uniform in tip-top condition, Helldivers.”

The Borderline Justice Warbond brought with it a host of new Wild West-themed weapons, armour sets, and emotes. Among the weapons available through the Warbond are the LAS-58 Talon energy pistol, and the R-6 Deadeye lever-action rifle. For the grenade slot, players can pick up the TED-63 Dynamite, and there is also the LIFT-860 Hover Pack that provides players with greater mobility options.

Medium and Heavy armours were represented in Borderline Justice through the GS-17 Frontier Marshal and the GS-66 Lawmaker respectively. Both sets, when equipped, give players access to improved reload speed and weapon-swapping speed, as well as reduced recoil for secondary weapons through its Gunslinger passive ability.

Helldivers 2 has been an incredibly successful title for Arrowhead Game Studios. As of November 2024, the game had managed to cross the 15 million players milestone.

In the meantime, the studio has revealed more details about the development processes that went behind the creation of Helldivers 2. During GDC 2025 back in March, CCO Johan Pilestedt revealed that the game took almost 8 years to make because the studio opted to skip the pre-production phase of development. While the studio had initially expected needing 4 years to make the game, it ultimately ended up taking almost 8 years.

“We were throwing around some ideas, and then we got a little cautious because we’ve been burned before by making games that are a little bit too complicated for what we’re capable of, and then having to crunch. It takes so much energy,” Pilestedt said. “So we said, ‘This will be easy. We can probably do it in four years.’”

“We already knew where the game was going to go and headed straight into production—it was a really, really, really bad idea,” he continued. “Always do your homework before you start spending millions and millions and millions of dollars in making a game.”

Helldivers 2 is available on PC and PS5. Check out our review from back when it launched for more details.
