Shortly after the recent announcement that Helldivers 2 will be making its way to Xbox Series X/S, developer Arrowhead Game Studios has also announced a new features that will improve the quality of life of actually buying the game or spending money on Super Credits to buy Warbonds. Dubbed the Warbond Token, the new features will give players that pick up the Super Citizen Edition or the equivalent upgrade for Helldivers 2 the ability to unlock any Premium Warbond of their choice.

With this change, the Super Citizen Edition and the equivalent upgrade will no longer give players just the Steeled Veterans Warbond. Instead, players will get the choice to use the Warbond Token to pick up any other Warbond that might look more interesting to them. Since this is also applying to the Super Citizen Edition Upgrade, players that already own the base version of Helldivers 2 will be able to get a Warbond Token without having to worry about ending up with two purchases of Steeled Veterans.

The Warbond Token system is slated to hit Helldivers 2 alongside its release on Xbox Series X/S – on August 26. In an update on the Helldivers 2 PlayStation Store page, Arrowhead Game Studios further revealed why the decision to introduce Warbond Tokens was made.

“Prior to now players could accidentally double up purchases on the ‘Steeled Veterans Warbond’ in the game and with the Super Citizen Edition Upgrade,” it wrote. “We never want players to buy things twice and not get the value of what they paid for!”

Further in the FAQ, the studio has confirmed that Warbond Tokens will not be available to pick up as a separate item. “There are no plans for the Warbond Token to exist as a standalone product,” wrote the studio. “Players will still be able to access and purchase any Premium Warbond within the game as it has been to date.”

Helldivers 2 was announced for Xbox Series X/S earlier this week. The game will be coming to the platform with a price tag of $39.99, or $59.99 if you’re interested in grabbing the Super Citizen Edition. Pre-orders for the title have gone live on the Xbox Store. The Xbox Series X/S release will also include full cross-platform multiplayer capabilities, allowing Xbox players to team up with their friends on PS5 or PC.

Pre-ordering Helldivers 2 on Xbox Series X/S also comes with some in-game bonuses: three armour sets across the three weight tiers, each offering unique bonuses. The heavy armour TR-9 Cavalier of Democracy, for example, gives the player a 50 percent chance of surviving what would otherwise have been a lethal hit.

In a push to expand the playerbase of Helldivers 2, Sony and Arrowhead Game Studios have also removed some regional restrictions on buying the co-op shooter. While the game had been delisted from 177 countries that didn’t have PlayStation Network support, back in June, updates to the title’s Steam listing have meant that there are only eight countries in the world that are blocked from buying the game.

Helldivers 2 is available on PC and PS5.
