While Arrowhead Game Studios has done a great job of its continuous post-launch support of co-op shooter Helldivers 2 since its 2024 launch, the studio doesn’t seem to plan on stopping in 2026 either. As caught by GamesRadar, studio CEO Shams Jorjani held an impromptu Q&A session on the game’s official Discord channel where he spoke about future plans for the shooter. When asked by one player for a “tiny little hint” about the next major update for Helldivers 2, Jorjani said that “a lot of Helldivers will die.”
Answering another question about the studio’s roadmap for Helldivers 2 that would give players a better idea of what they can expect for the game, Jorjani said that it was still under discussion. A big part of this, he noted, was that while Arrowhead Game Studios would love to share upcoming quality-of-life and similar changes, the developers would still like to keep story elements and “other things” hidden.
“We are still discussing,” he said. “We’d like to find a way to share [quality-of-life] and certain types of roadmaps but keep story and other things hidden.”
Jorjani was also asked about how the studio decides on the difficulty of the various Major Orders in Helldivers 2, which serve as goals that the entire community has to work towards to continue the Galactic Campaign meta narrative. When one player called the current Major Order “mathematically impossible,” Jorjani noted that none of the game’s Major Orders have been impossible. Rather, some have been designed to be incredibly difficult to encourage the game’s community to work together.
“I’m not 100% familiar with the mission design – but [as far as I know] we’ve never had an order that was mathematically impossible,” he said. “Some have been designed to be VERY hard. And sometimes the community has rallied and surprised quite a bit.”
Responding to the same question, Jorjani also spoke about “game master” Joel and his team, who has largely been in charge of setting up the overall meta narrative of the game. He likened Joel and his team’s jobs to a dungeon master that one would see in a tabletop RPG.
“[If I remember correctly] we run like you would any roleplaying game as a dungeon master,” Jorjani explained. “You plan for different outcomes along a rough campaign. We know roughly where you’re gonna end up as we head into the next big update – but not the exact details. It’s very hard trying to keep development open-ended.”
While Jorjani’s noted planning things out in an open-ended way, creative director Johann Pilestedt implied just last month that the studio had already planned out the next major story arcs for Helldivers 2. Posting a photo on social media, Pilestedt said that he was discussing the “next 4 arcs” of the co-op shooter’s story with the game’s directors.
