Hideo Kojima has left Konami, the publisher has confirmed to a number of Japanese publications. Finally, he is free to develop whatever he wants. Honestly, this should come as good news for Metal Gear Solid fans as the man was losing interest in the series, despite Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain being an excellent game.

So where is Kojima heading next? Well it took no time for him to announce that he has formed his own studio aptly titled Kojima Productions. “My employment contract with Konami has been terminated as of Dec 15th, so today marks a new start for me. I’m committed to be involved in creative activities for as long as I live,” he stated on Twitter.

He further announced that “the studio will begin focusing its efforts in developing products that will push the boundaries in innovation and ignite consumer interest worldwide.” The company’s official website is up. You can check it out over here.

But the big news of the day or perhaps the year is that Kojima’s first game will be a console exclusive to the PS4. Sony has confirmed the partnership with Kojima Productions. SCEI CEO Andrew House had the following to say regarding the partnership. “PlayStation’s history is one of game innovation and great new franchises. Hideo Kojima has been a huge part of that history, and we are therefore delighted that he has chosen to bring his brand new project to life in partnership with PlayStation. We look forward to working with him on an exciting new game and warmly welcome him to the PlayStation family.”

Hideo Kojima further commented on the partnership. “I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years. I cannot wait to deliver, with PlayStation, a game that will become a compelling franchise.”

Now go, let the legend come back to life.
