The Burning Shores DLC for Horizon Forbidden West adds four machines to the roster of 43 already existing in the base game.
Among regular machines, you’ll find the Stingspawn, the Bilegut, and the Waterwing, the latter two of which can be Overridden and converted to allies. The fourth machine is a Boss: The Horus Titan, which you’ll have actually seen previously in their inactive, wrecked state across the world.
Waterwing Machine
A counterpart to the Sunwing, these exceptionally agile, medium-sized fliers can also dive underwater. Susceptible to fire damage, they can be targeted at weak points, and should be attacked from a distance, as they deal Shock and Purgewater damage. Get too close, and you can expect to be struck by gravel from their pelicanesque beak pouch or buffeted by their wings.
Part of the Acquisition Class, you must complete Cauldron GEMINI in order to Override these very useful amphibious machines, especially for exploration both in the air and underwater. Indeed, this is the only machine that can be ridden underwater, and ought to be your mount of choice in general, as you roam the Burning Shores.
Bilegut Machine
Akin to giant toads, Bileguts fire acid projectiles with a fair bit of range on them, as well as Purgewater. They will also spit out Stingspawns as additionals, primarily to scavenge resources, but also to attack you. These Colossal Class machines are vulnerable to both frost and fire damage. With weak points that can be targeted, it’s best to maintain distance and lean on frost arrows to slow the Bilegut down, especially to suppress the tongue lashing and leaping attacks.
Eliminate any Stingspawns quickly, before focusing on the Bilegut itself. Also an Acquisition Class machine, you must complete Cauldron THETA in order to Override Bilegut machines, and convert them to allies. The darker armor schemed Apex Bileguts cannot be Overridden of course, just like all Apex variants.
Stingspawn Machine
These exceptionally annoying little insectoid machine drones can be found both in the wild, and when they emerge from an egg spawned and launched by a Bilegut in the vicinity. As always, pick away at Stingspawns from afar, and stay mobile to avoid their acid attacks. Their power cells can be targeted and they are vulnerable to Shock damage.
Eliminate quickly so as not to be overwhelmed by sheer numbers when swarms of reinforcements start to pour in. Stingspawns cannot be Overridden. Be wary of the Bilegut that spawned them, and use armor which is resistant to acid to mitigate the damage from the primary attack of either machine.
Horus Titan
This gargantuan, ancient walking war factory machine is the first one you’ll have encountered in an active state, and serves as a Boss in The Burning Shores DLC. The Horus processes raw materials and produces more machines. Akin to a tentacular arachnid, it is also known as a “Metal Devil”. Even though the Horus you will combat is partially crippled by cooling issues, it remains invulnerable to most weapons, and poses a significant threat to you.
Stay afar while evading both the missiles it fires, and the swinging tentacles and legs as it strides towards the bay. Wait for the overburdened cooling system to expose itself and then target its weak points. Horus will spawn Corruptors to harass you at a certain point, and although it is only optional to eliminate them, it is recommended you do so anyway, so you can continue your assault on the behemoth unhindered.
And that’s a wrap on the newest additions to Horizon Forbidden West’s bestiary. Enjoy taming and slaying these all new machine creatures!
