The back half of March was a big one for new video game released, with the likes of Dragon’s Dogma 2, Rise of the Ronin, Princess Peach: Showtime!, and Alone in the Dark all hitting store shelves around the same time. Alongside those new titles, however, Sony also released the PC port of Horizon Forbidden West, which has got off to an impressive start on the platform.
In addition to Horizon Forbidden West attracting a sizeable amount of players on Steam upon release, the game also enjoyed a significant sales boost. As shared by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella on Twitter, for the week ending March 23 (giving the game’s PC version three days on the market), Horizon Forbidden West one of the ten best-selling games in the United States.
The week prior, before it came to PC, the open world action RPG wasn’t ranked even in the top 100, so there’s a significant (and blatantly visible) jump that can be attributed to the PC version.
Forbidden West’s PC performance doesn’t come as a surprise, given how well its predecessor did on the platform. It emerged in December through leaked data from the Insomniac hack that Horizon Zero Dawn had sold over 3.3 million units on Steam.
Horizon Forbidden West is available on PS5, PS4, and PC. Read our review of the PC version through here, and the original PS5 version through here. The next Sony game making the jump to the platform is Ghost of Tsushima, which is coming in May.
Another strong debut for a Sony title on PC… Horizon: Forbidden West was one of the US market's top 10 best-selling games during the week ending March 23rd after not ranking among the top 100 during the prior week. (Source: Circana retail tracking service, dollar sales)
