The Half-Life series draws some inspiration from various adaptations
I have to admit that when I first played Half Life, I thought the whole plot was ingenious and mind blowing. However the developers claim that they took inspiration from a variety of sources. For example it takes various adaptations of H. G. Wells’s The War of the Worlds. The striders in Half Life 2 are almost alike to the ones that are similar to the description in the book. Of course Gordon Freeman from a lone scientist to kicking ass, is a totally original concept of the series.
