MachineGames is using id Software's proprietary engine once again, as it did for all Wolfenstein games it has previously released.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle impressed with its lengthy debut showing at Microsoft’s recent Xbox Developer_Direct presentation, and more details on the first-person action-adventure game are continuing to filter through in the aftermath of its unveiling. For instance, we now know what engine it’s being developed on.

As spotted by Digital Foundry’s John Linneman on Twitter, a little bit of sleuthing of the game’s recent Direct presentation confirms that it’s being developed on idTech, with an icon of the engine being visible on the taskbar of a developer’s screen in one shot. Presumably, the version being used is idTech 7, which made its debut with DOOM Eternal.

Of course, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Developer MachineGames has used different versions of idTech for every single Wolfenstein game it has released over the last decade, so to see the studio sticking with what it knows is expected.

MachineGames has also confirmed that Indiana Jones will be played by Troy Baker in the game. The action-adventure title will also boast a “fully simulated” whip, as well as “open-area” maps for players to explore.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle launches later this year for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
