Inscryption

After receiving a release date and demo on Steam, Daniel Mullins’ card battle Inscryption has a new overview trailer that explains some of the mechanics. Mullins is on hand for this but it’s not long before things take a dark turn and end up breaking the fourth wall. Check it out below.

Inscryption sees players trapped inside of a strange cabin and playing card games with a mysterious entity. The cards function of a sacrifice mechanic – by sacrificing certain cards, you can play more powerful ones and overcome foes. Like Slay the Spire, it’s possible to choose one’s path in a rogue-lite fashion and there also bosses to face.

Things quickly take a turn once your cards start speaking to you and providing hints. From there, you can explore the cabin and unlock safes, solve puzzles and so on, either to gain new cards or eventually escape. The demo provided a good idea of what to expect but given the developer’s previous works like Pony Island, there’s likely to be much more bubbling beneath the surface.

Inscryption is out on October 19th for PC.
