The Last of Us Day seemed it would close without major announcements, but studio president Neil Druckmann suddenly dropped a bomb: Intergalactic, Naughty Dog’s next big game, will receive a full reveal in 2027.
Addressing the title’s absence since its announcement in December 2024, he confirmed that the team will “be quiet for the rest of the year.” However, “In 2027, that changes. We’ll fully reveal Intergalactic and give you a proper look at Jordan’s wild sci-fi adventure.
“We know it’s been a long time since we’ve had much to share with you. We don’t take your continued support for granted. We’re working incredibly hard to make something worthy of your patience.”
Before this, Druckmann reiterated what he said last year – Intergalactic is Naughty Dog’s “most ambitious game yet.” “There’s an electricity around the studio right now as all the pieces come together,” and the team is looking forward to revealing it “in all its glory.” In the meantime, “we need to cook for just a little bit longer.”
He also shared new artwork, which showcases the protagonist on Sempiria. While seemingly pursuing a bounty, she ends up stranded and must battle for survival. No one has escaped in more than 600 years, so Jordan certainly has her work cut out for her. Besides tackling themes of loneliness, it’s allegedly taking inspiration from Elden Ring’s player freedom. Whether it embraces a more Souls-like action RPG gameplay hasn’t been confirmed, however, officially or otherwise.
In development since 2020, Intergalactic is Naughty Dog’s first new IP in over 13 years. While a release window hasn’t been announced, rumours indicate it could arrive by mid-2027. Then again, with Druckmann promising a full reveal next year, perhaps it’s been internally pushed to later next year or even early 2028. It’ll be a long wait regardless, so stay tuned.
