Invincible VS

Soon after the unveiling Invincible VS, developer Quarter Up and publisher Skybound Entertainment have released a new video for the upcoming fighting game. The trailer, which you can check out below, features discussions about the title from prominent members of the fighting game community, as well as the creator of the Invincible franchise, Robert Kirkman.

Alongside Kirkman, the video features Maximilian “Maximilian Dood” Christiansen, executive producer Mike Willette, and even members of the game’s development team, all discussing what makes the upcoming 3-on-3 fighting game special.

“It’s something that dials up the intensity of action, the intensity of violence, the intensity of combat, and to me, one of the most impactful things in a fighting game is the first impression,” said Christiansen. “That’s the thing that my brain always goes to, like when you press buttons, when you do stuff, what is the response? And yeah, watching a 3v3 tag fighter with so much gore? That’s like the first thing that was like ‘yeah, this is different. This is something I’ve never seen before.’”

Reepal “Rip” Parbhoo also spoke about using the development of Invincible VS to try and create something new in the fighting game genre. He spoke about the genre largely being dominated by long-running franchises with their own fans. However, Invincible VS, according to Parbhoo, offers a chance to bring something new in fighting game form.

“Most fighting games nowadays, you don’t have the opportunity to create something completely new,” said Parbhoo. “Most of these fighting games that exist, they’re very high in the iterative number of whatever the series is, and if you deviate from from that too much, the fan base kind of revolts against you. They’re like, ‘dude, that’s not my same game I’ve grown up liking.’ But, in this opportunity we have, we can do whatever we want, right?”

Invincible VS was unveiled during Xbox Games Showcase 2025 over the weekend. Developer Quarter Up is made up of veterans of the genre, having previously worked with Double Helix on games like Killer Instinct. Invincible VS is a tag-based fighter in the vein of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, where each player enters a fight with a team of three distinct fighters, complete with the ability to tag in and out, and even call in team mates for assist moves to get out of a tight situation or extend a combo.

“As huge fans of the franchise, it was an honor to work with Robert [Kirkman], as well as the comic book and TV series teams, to create the most authentic Invincible experience for players,” said executive producer Mike Willette. “In Invincible VS, every move, every line of dialogue, every broken limb and bloodied mouth carries real cost and consequence – all building toward the bone-deep satisfaction of victory. No tag fighting game has ever delivered this level of intensity and violence. This game is a love letter to the fighting game community, created by a team of passionate, experienced fans of the genre.”

Invincible VS is slated for release in 2026, and will be coming to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
